What is a Typeathlon?

Welcome to Firefingers! We are looking to host typing competitions, called Typeathlons. A Typeathlon is essentially a typing competition between students (we call them Typeathletes) in grades 4-6 in the state of Utah.

How does it work?

Step #1: Go to firefingerstyping.com and click the “Typeathlon” tab at the top of the page.

Step #2: Fill out the form to register your school for the competition. This form can be found under the “Typeathlons” tab on our website. You must fill out the entry form no later than October 1, 2022 to get the early registration price. Early registration costs $200 per school. Any schools that register between October 2, 2022 and January 31, 2023 will be $250 per school. The final day to register is January 31, 2023. This registration cost allows for unlimited entries into the competition as long as they are students at the school registered for the Typeathlon. Payment can be made via Venmo, Paypal, Cash, or Check. Details about payment will be communicated directly via email upon registration.

Step #3: Practice, practice, practice. Use your computer class time to take practice typing tests, train, etc. Use the resources found under our “Resources” tab. As part of your entry fee, we will come do an in-person introduction presentation for your computer class and do a virtual mid-year presentation for your classes, as well. Any school who registers between October 2, 2022 and January 31, 2023 will only receive a virtual introduction presentation rather than an in-person presentation.

Step #4: Compete! During the week of March 13-17, 2023, students will compete in the Typeathlon by joining the Firefingers group on the 10 Fast Fingers website, using the specific URL sent out via email to registered schools on March 12, 2023. Schools and Typeathletes will receive official rules of competition and instructions for entry via email upon initial registration.

Step #5: Win awards! Awards will be given for each grade, school, and district level. Awards will be given to the fastest typist at each of these levels of competition. Firefingers will deliver the trophies and certificates to participating schools no later than May 12, 2023 so that the awards can be presented by the school to the students at end-of-year school-level awards ceremonies.
